driving down? My Honda Accord (1998) stalls several times a week. This happens weather I sit at a light or I'm driving down the highway. When it happens everything goes dead in the car and the "key light" on the dash begins to blink. what is wrong?

Could be a clogged fuel line...fuel pump going...fuel filter may need replaced.

You need to take it to a mechanic...

It could be a lot of things; Check the following;

1. bad battery

2. loose battery terminals

3. loose wiring connection between the battery and alternator

4. alternator malfunctioning already

5. clog fuel filter

6. faulty fuel pump relay

7. fuel pump starts to malfunction

8. bad spark plugs

9. bad distributor

10. bad rotor

11. ignition coil starts to fail

Have these things check first. Hope this help!

Hey Edward;

Not sure if you got this problem fixed or not but for every other Honda owner out there that has experienced this, and i know theyre are many, here's how I fixed this issue on my 98 Accord 4cyl 2.3l ex. automatic

I first experienced this "stalling" ablast summer. It would happen when i was driving (and my dash would light up and click) so i would have to pull over and put it in park, turn my car off and turn it over again. It would even happen if i was parked somewhere or stopped at a light. (no regular intervals - sporadical stalling) started noticing what was happening when my car would stall. It came down to being my battery terminals. They always seemed to corrode more than usual (they dont need replacing) id find myself cleaning the terminals every few wks with a stainless steel brush.

what i did to fix this problem: 10minute repair

disconnected my battery, brush down anything corroded with a stainless steel brush (7$) (replace terminals and connectors if needed) baking soda and water into a paste, lather over terminals and connectors. let sit, wipe off clean, lube battery terminal and inner ring of connection with dialectic grease. reassemble battery. voila! total cost: 3$

It has now been over 5000km and i have yet to have my car stall on me. Im positive this was the reason my car stalled. If i had to put a number to how many times it happened id confidently say 20. it would happen 2wice in one week and not happen again for 2wks. it didnt matter if i had my car on cruise control, it would still "hick-up" and endup stalling 10kms down the road. This is not to say that this is the only reason a 98 Accord can stall, but this solution has definately resolved my problem.

Good luck for anyone attemting to resolve this problem with their Hondas. If anyone wants to email me please feel free to do so.
