Default Is it worth boosting power on a standard post 2006 Civic with an automatic transmission?

I'm 28. When I was 18 I had a horrible '89 Toyota Tercel with a bad clutch as it is. It's what I learned on. Then I got a '99 Ford ZX2 that ran for 6 years. It was a stick shift. I ruined the transmission on that car and for a while I drove my dad's 2000 Mazda Protege with stick and heavy clutch. It had a few problems with the transmission after I drove that as well. Needless to say, today I feel very comfortable on stick, but my father has those bad memories. I had a Automatic VW Passat since 2007 until now with tiptronic shift (it's an '03). It has high miles and I am ready to be done with that car. My friends in CA and Anchorage, AL both drive the Honda Civic Si and love it. I test drove one two years back and tonight. I fell in love with it. The smooth shifting, it's positioning, it was like a dream. There's one that is used here in MD for 17,999 with 50,000 mi on it. It has sunroof, navigation also. My wife liked it.
Trouble? she does not drive manual but is eager to learn. I called my father to tell him about this car. He remembers 10 years ago when I was an idiot 18 yr old who apparently ruined two transmissions. He said, "do what you want, I'm just nervous one of you will mess it up and you'll have to pay a few thousand to repair the transmission and you won't be able to do it." I see his point, but I'm confident in how I drive now compared to back then. I do see his point about my wife not having experience at all ruining it. (incase of emergencies that type of thing, but she owns a Jetta with automatic transmission.)

I'm racking my brain over this one. I absolutely am in love with this car. I'll tell you this, I've not drive the Honda Civic regular model, it never appealed to me. I'm just wondering if this transmission is something that I shouldn't try to get into. If 90% of ppl in Europe and the U.K. learned to drive standard, why can't we?

So it brings me to my final question. I love the drive, and power that the Civic SI has to offer. Is it possible to boost the automatic transmission of the Civic to those numbers or near it? Am I dreaming and should move on?

Thanks

Sounds like a cool Civic and a pretty good deal, and stick is really the way to go, I dont want to be a turd but id reccomend mabey borrowing a diffrent car just for the wife just to learn and just get the stick part down then move to the SI. And as for your question what do you mean boost the automatic off the civic to match what numbers?

Oh I meant to match the horsepower of the Si. In other words can you get a Civic with an automatic transmission to drive like an Si or is it not even worth the try like you're saying and I might as well grab a stick

Yeah the stick is the better option. the civic automatic isnt even going to come close to the si stick unless serious stuff is done like a new engine. which isnt worth the cost.
