Default what is a car overheating temperature?

i have a 96 accord ex 2.2 vtec and i think its running hot. And i think the temperature gauge isn't read correctly. so i when and brought a obd2 code reader. the temperature reads around 230 degree after about 15 minutes of driving. But i know how to work on car i just dont know the overheating temperature. if you could give me a temperature range, that would very helpful thanks

That's too hot, alright. The temperature should settle down right at the thermostat temperature. I don't know what the standard temperature thermostat is for your car, but it should be around 190 degrees (maybe less). At 200 degrees the car is just beginning to overheat and by 210 degrees the thermostat is already pretty much wide open and the system is getting saturated by overheated water - it's mighty hard to cool down the engine when the incoming water is almost as hot as the water going to the radiator.
