Default Can an aftermarket Ebay High Flow catalytic converter actually decrease HP & MPG by

triggering the CEL? I recently had an inspection done on my 1995 Honda Accord only to discover that there is a resonator where the cat should be. The only issues i have (besides possible legal) is that the CEL light stays on. Could that affect the ECM air to fuel ratio, MPG and or HP?

It's a F22b1 Vtech EX with an aftermarket cat back exhaust

No, the change in performance and economy is negligible.

However, you are right to keep the legality in mind. Within the past few months I have seen enormous increases in enforcement efforts by nearly every agency imaginable as they struggle to bring in fines to support their budgets. Tax agencies, OSHA, state police, state and federal DOTs, and anybody who can benefit from collecting fines are going absolutely wild now. Most are quite candid that the efforts are for revenue. You don't want to let the EPA find you on the road with no catalytic converter - they will fine the registered owner (expect a $10,000 to $25,000 fine with threat of serious jail time if you don't pay) and it would be a hard thing to defend in court, at many thousands of dollars more. If the EPA is not seriously planning ambush checkpoints in every state for emission system tampering they are a lot dumber than I would have ever imagined.
