Default 1995 Honda Accord EX fail emissions and misfires under low rpm high load

My girlfriends 95' Honda Accord EX failed emissions and misfires under low rpm/high load. These are certainly related in my mind. We got it cheap because our county doesn't have emissions testing and she has been driving it like this but it's time to fix it. It is causing it to guzzle down the gasolines. And pollute the environments (for the environmental enthusiasts).

It idles wonderful and when you put it to the floor it runs like a champ. The problem is between 2-3k rpm in first and second gear taking off in particular. I can also recreate the misfire by putting it in drive and holding on the brake while rev. up to 2500 rpm.

Spark plugs are good. Not sure about the wires.

I'm thinking it has to be a bad sensor. Which one?

I should probably start with new plugs and wires. They're cheap, can't hurt but my gut says that's not it.

Any input would be well appreciated as I am not very sharp on this subject and I don't want to just start shelling out the bucks replacing everything that *could* be wrong.

Thank you.

Is there a check enine light on? And how many miles does it have on it and is it a stick or automatic. if its an automatic and it has lots of miles on it then the transmission may be going out and the car is doing a really bad job at limp mode. which can happen although rare. It almost also sounds to me like something is just off timing. and the fuel relay can do this because the car computer sends electricity to power the fuel injectors through the fuel relay, this relay often goes bad on Hondas, and the solder connectons could be worn so when the car is at low rpm the fuel injector connection is goin bad and not delivering fuel which judging by your info could be a possibility. Quite honestly those are just theories. sorry i couldnt help more.
