Default How do I know if my crankshaft position sensor on my 2001 honda civic lx is about to give out on me?

My dad claims its my crankshaft position sensor on my car that has it acting crazy. Examples: the car overheats after being driven for like 30 minutes. Also whenever I do 65 mph for like 5 minutes and once I bring it down to 40 mph it starts acting crazy again. Like omg... Can somebody PLEASE answer this question for me?

Overheating would not be a result of crankshaft position sensor. Just take it to your mechanic and find out what the real problem is and then you will have some idea as to what needs to be done.

Crank shaft position sensor tells the car when to fire. It wont usually go bad, just stop working all together.

Common symptom is when the car runs like a champ, you turn it off, and the car won't start. Or your driving down the road and the car turns off, then wont start back up.

Has the car thrown a check engine light? Have it diagnosed at local automotive retail store.
