Default How many 12oz. cans of refrigerant 134a do i need to use to recharge the A/C on my 2001 honda civic?

I used one Weitron can of 134a refrigerant and i'm not sure if that is enough.

Does anyone know?

Anything helps. thanks

It is not possible to properly charge an R134a system at home because it requires evacuating the system and adding a measured amount of refrigerant (unless you have a dynamometer climatic wind tunnel - see the first source). I was good at recharging R12 so I thought surely I could do R134a by gauge and thermometer, but when I tried it in my son's Acura it took me to school. I had just enough sense to shut down the operation when I heard little slugs of liquid hitting the compressor - any farther and it would have destroyed the compressor. Others have not been so lucky.

Please take it to a professional - for about $100 they will have the system working at its best. I suspect your system is already dangerously overcharged... it shouldn't need much, if any refrigerant after 9 years. My son's Acura was a 1994 and after less than a can it was 6 oz overcharged.
