better motor, rims that aren't too gaudy, i/h/e, new paint, NO BIG SPOILER or LOUD EXHAUST, NO BODY KIT, a decent lip for the front, lower it about an inch and a half, keep interior pretty much stock... etc.

Buy quality performance parts and only use stock parts for everything else like rims, lips, spoilers etc.

OEM parts are OEM for a reason... ;]

Not really, because you will get called a ricer by someone no matter how unassuming the car is, as long as it's not 100% stock. So, unless you want to have a 100% stock car from the outside, OEM wheels and exhaust and everything else, but swap the engine, I would either just not care what someone else thinks and do what you want, or don't touch it. Remember, just because fellow Honda enthusiasts say it's clean, doesn't mean you won't get the reputation of being a ricer by, say, American car enthusiasts.

Dress up your car as simple as possible. Just put a nice set of rims and tires, have a little modification on your engine and your fine. Maintain also your car's cleanliness. If you need to lower it a little bit just to have it a nice look its fine. Hope this help!
