in honda terminology it relates to the generation of the car,

just like EF civic = 88-91 or EG civic = 92-95,

FD would be for the Japanese Civic Type R (sedan),

well what does FD stand for.... there is no acronym or two words that are F and D, its part of the chassis code (vin number)

all hondas have a VIN#, and a chassis code (part of the vin) if you look at the 4-6th digits of the vin there will be a code like EJ6 FD2 FG5 etc.....

FD2 is for the Japanese Version Honda Civic Type R (Sedan)

for US based Civic's (06+up / 8th generation) it would be like this:

Civic Coupe (non-si) FG1

Civic Coupe Si FG2

Civic Sedan (non-si) FA1

Civic Sedan Si FA5

EDIT What does Si Mean?

for civics:

Si = sport injection

Si-r = sport injection racing

Type R = type racing

for integras

RS: Regular Series.

LS: Luxury Series.

SE: Special Edition.

GS: Grand Series. .

GS-R: Grand Series Racing.

Type R: Type Racing.

FD is part of the chassis code. In this case that applies to the latest Honda Civic model, the one made from 2006 to present. The FD code is designated to those models that come from the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market).

FN is for the ones from Europe & FA is the one for the American version (correct me if I am wrong).

Some of the older chassis codes for Civics were

ES for the 2001-2005 model

EK for the 1996-2000 model

EG for the 1992-1995 model

EF for the 1988-1991 model
