Default Do I have to re-program ECU (computer) replacement in 99 Honda Civic?

I am replacing the ECU in my Honda Civic 99. Do I have to re-program anything? Or is it a simple swap out?

It depends. To pass emissions/inspection you do because the ecu/pcm has your vin on it. The new ecu would have the vin of the donor vehicle; so that really needs to be changed in order to pass. Otherwise, the calibration if it came from the same exact engine (meaning...pretty much the same year) doesn't need to be altered. It's very rare to get the same calibration on different years (that's my warning) as they always tinker with the fuel mapping to get more power or better mileage. So...pretty much unless you have the software/hardware yourself you're going to have to a shop or maybe the dealership if the shop doesn't want to touch the vin issue.

No you dont have to reprogram anything, its a simple swap out, just make sure you match out the same ecu (also make sure if your car is manual or auto, you match that to the ecu or else you will throw a code and have a CEL on constantly)

on the side it will have a label (like what is shown below),

in this example its a P04 ecu,

if you have a 99 DX/LX you will need a P2E ecu, if you have a HX you will need a P2N, EX = P2P, and Si is P2T.
