Default Parking lights will not go off

I bought my son a 1988 Honda Accord. We tested the lights and everything was fine. He drove it the other night, using the headlights. He turned the lights off but the next day, his battery was completely dead. After jumping off the car, now when you turn the lights off and also turn off the car, the parking lights stay on. We are having to remove the negative cable to the battery so the battery won't die. Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?
