Default Honda accord 99 remote key not working?

Today my remote key wouldn't lock or unlock my car doors, so I went to buy and replaced a new battery for it, but after trying to lock or unlock my car doors, it still wouldn't work. I never had this problem for years. Any solution?

I wonder if, when the battery dies, if it wipes out some internal code that may need a tiny trickle of juice to preserve it. You might have to contact a dealer to reset this. Like when the CMOS battery on the motherboard of an unplugged computer dies: you lose a bunch of BIOS settings.

I think it's time to buy a new remote key, they don't last forever.

check to see if the red led on the top front of the remote blinks ON when you press any key on the remote. if the red light comes on your battery is good. It is possible to buy a dead battery.

Assuming the battery is good, the next step is to try the other remote (the car came with two) if you can find it.

If not, you can try to reprogram yours using the following procedure.

1) Sit in the drivers seat of the car with the doors closed. leave the doors unlocked. put the key in the ignition and hold the remote in your left hand

2) turn the ignition key to the ON position (the warning lights on the dasy will come on; no need to start the engine.

3) when the warning lights come ON, push the lock button on the remote within 3 seconds

4) turn the ignition key OFF

5) repeat steps 3 and 4 three more times.

6) on the 4th sequence you should hear the door locks work.

7) turn the ignition key off and remove the key. the remote should them be programmed.

if that doesn't work, the remote is burnt out and you'll have to buy a new remote.

hope that helps
