Default I have an "incorrect gear ratio" check engine light reading on my 2001 honda civic?

Hi there!















The dealer said i need a new transmission as they diagnosed the check engine light as "incorrect gear ratio"..code p0730...















my car has 90,000 miles...















Should i believe them?

that code is simply a code that implies that the computer thinks that the transmission is slipping. without actually seeing the transmission there are a lot of possibilities... keep in mind that the transmission in these cars were being replaces at the dealers cost for being defective. it could also mean that you have bad speed sensors, solenoid failing, etc...
