Default Honda Civic 1997 jerks while auto transmission change

Hello

My Honda Civic 1997 (163K miles) jerks and the rpm clock hand goes back rapidly while auto transmission change. I took it to a reliable mechanic and he said transmission is slowly acting up but it is still fine to drive now. There are no engine lights on. Transmission fluid change was done last at 144K miles.

Any idea what cost I am looking at to replace or fix the transmission problem and if there is any preventive measures I can take right now?

Thanks-Abbey
