Most automatic tranny cars have an interlock on the shifter so you can't shift out of park unless the brakes are on. Sounds like maybe the interlock has quite working in the LOCKED position.

The safety interlock to prevent it from shifting out of park when the brakes are not applied is acting up. The labor is normally an hour, two at the most. Until then, if you stick a key or similar (doesn't have to fit the ignition, just something to push in the slot) into the slot in the console left of the shifter you can drive normally. If you don't see the slot, consult the owner's manual... it may have changed. Remember it will be possible to shift into gear without the brake applied.
