Question 2001 Civic won't crank....

Ok, long story and I'd appreciate any input.
The water pump on my 2001 civic went out at around 140,000. So I read in the chilton manuel on how to do everything and went ahead and picked up new belts for the ac, power steering pump and alternator. I also picked up a new timing belt and valve cover seal because they were all recommended. So my friend and I break it down and put all these new parts on. The only thing we didnt do by the book was drain the coolant from the block before we pulled the water pump so coolant went all over the place. (We didnt firgure that there would be that much in there...)
So after all this the civic sounds like its trying to crank but just not enough to get it over the point for it to run. We did think maybe the timing got off so we broke it down AGAIN, and all the pulleys are lined up and mechanically on. So I am stumped.
Any thoughts?
