Default Can you disconnect certain functions of an ECU?

like the EGR valve, o2 censer and condenser fan. I want to disconnect those features because my car doesn't have them. It's a long story but i don't have them and i have been having a draw while the car is off since i bought the car 8 months ago. I believe the ECU/PCM/ECM is sending current to components that don't exist and it's killing my battery and alternator.

If those parts were unplugged, and the plugs are not shorting to ground, which would blow a fuse, they will not pull any power. The EMC will issue commands to operate those items, but that will only be a micro-voltage command.

You can find a faster way to find out what part of the electrical system is causing your battery to drain. I can almost guarentee it is not the ECU.

Do you have a voltmeter?

Hi there, Dear Andy;
U'll need an analog meter ( or digital meter ) Ammeter that reads at least 200 mA,

Warning; < Never miss handle the battery, it may discharge in seconds, more than 300 AMPs that will cause fire or kill some one. >

Checking AMPs always will be in series { NOT parallel },
So U'll need to disconnect a battery cable ; put one leads of the meter {touch } battery post the other touching the cable then read the scale of the analog meter ( or screen of the digital meter ) it should reads less than 70 mA if it's more than 70 mA then U have very serious battery drains & that's what is called ; parasitic drain {parasitic loads}.

Your problem is; what's called a parasitic drain {parasitic loads} ;
To make sure that U have bad

Go to this very valuable free site:
Automotive Training and Resource Site

Go first to ;
Technical Articles
Battery Service v1.1.pdf

Go to Battery page 15, ;
And U'll find the paragraph about parasitic drain {parasitic loads}.

Then ;
Online Instruction

Go to Battery, And U'll find the paragraph about parasitic drain {parasitic loads}.
And how to test the present of parasitic drain {parasitic loads}..
And how U can chaise to pin point the trouble.

Then;
Online Tests

U'll learn very valuable lessons & U'll become Electrician & Electronic Technician.

I hope it helps, Good luck.
Best Regards;
Za-Fairi
