Default First time car buyer. how about a 2001 Honda Civic?

alright, i'm looking to buy my first car. I really want to buy a pretty good car. I dont want a crappy car that i buy for suuuuper cheap. But i really dont want to spend an insane amount. I recently found a 2001 Honda Civic online. its a 4 door, has power windows and locks, a cd player, its automatic and stuff. they have it listed for about $5,995. That seems pretty good because the Kelly Blue book has it higher than that. it has about 88,000 miles on it. Would this be a good buy? my parents are scared about me buying it because its already 8 years old. They're scared that i'll buy it an have to start sinking money into replacing parts. What exactly should i ask the dealer about the car to make sure im not getting ripped off? Like what should i ask has been repaired or replace specifically. And is this a good deal or bad idea?

Ask if the timing belt has been replaced. If it hasn't at 8 years old and 88,000 miles, its time.
