Default 98 Honda Accord Purchase?

I am interested in purchasing a 98 Honda Accord V6 it has 160,000 miles on it and the front seat does not move back n forth and the back tires make a squeaking sound while it drives, the seller claims it is because the car had been sitting for quite some time and it should go away as i drive it, please let me know if this is a good buy, Thank You.

Honda accords are great little cars. However any car that has been sitting for a good whike ,I would not be interested in myself. There are lots of parts on cars that will start to deteriorate. Like eng.seals, wheel cyls., brake calipers etc. You may be repairing one thing now, and 2 or 3 more later.

I couldnt tell you if its a good buy because you dont say how much it is. However plan on doing the timing belt, water pump, cam seals, crank seal, VTEC seal and filter, oil change, brake pads, rear wheel bearings, CV axles, axle seals, tires, spark plugs, etc.

A front wheel drive car with a V6 is going to be harder to maintain than a 4 cylinder engine because half of the cylinders are up against the firewall.

If you do the maintenance yourself, things like changing the spark plugs can be a pain simply due to access.

If you take it to a shop it will cost more to service than a 4 cyl due to additional labor (and more parts) - I'm thinking serpentine belts, water pump, etc. Before you make a decision call a few shops that specialize in Hondas (dealers and independent shops). Tell them you're thinking about buying that car and ask what typical problems are and about how much those repairs tend to cost.

You'll get good advice and you'll figure out which shops you'll want to do business with if you get a Honda.
