if you dont youll ruin your engine in most cases it relieves the extreme pressure when you dont need it(shifting)

The BOV opens at a certain preset pressure to keep any excessive boost pressure from seriously damaging your engine.

BOV don't necessarily "sound cool" unless it's an aftermarket unit designed to make noise. Units that bypass the turbine to regulate pressure are hardly noticeable when they operate.

A blow of valve prevents damage to the turbo not necessarily the engine. Its a good idea to use one.

leanne your talking about a wastegate, not a bov. the blow off valve will vent excess pressure in the charge piping when the throttle plate is closed, ie while shifting. not venting the pressure can cause compressor surge, or turbulance with in the compressor housing. basically "shocking" the wheel which is bad for the internals. 5 and under psi...its not required. 5-10 is iffy....some will say yes some will say no....but i say yes. anything over 10 psi is required
