Default Honda auto transmission problems?

I've read about, and heard about, problems with Honda auto transmissions - more than other cars, it seems. I'm looking at maybe buying a Honda Civic or Accord, but I'm now worried about their transmissions.

What are the problems experienced by Hondas? Would a car with about 60,000 to 90,000 miles have these problems, or is it just high-milage cars that get the transmission problems?

the problem isnt the transmissions, its the clutches. the majority of most of the hondas are manual transmissions. wich means that there clutches get worn out quicker. reasons like people just leave there foot on the clutch when they drive. people drive these cars like they are all racers. high mileage can also play a factor. if your loking to buy a honda then you should be fine. there parts are cheap and they are easier to work on. just take care of your car and if you want to drive it like a race car then put the correct performance parts in. or youll just have another car with a worn out clutch. hoped i helped

the only auto transmission problems i heard was for the 98-02 accords

but for the rest no similar problems

all transmissions also dont go out from itself unless its high mileage but can be affected from the driver itself because of the maintence it needs to run.

While I agree with these answers to some degree, there are Hondas that have tranny problems. The 2006 (and possibly '07) Civic Si has a TSB from Honda concerning the transmissions the 3rd gear going out. Also, all V6 Hondas from 1998-2003 Have a TSB concerning transmission failures. Oddly enough, there were two automatic transmissions used: The 4 speed automatic H4 and the 5 speed automatic H5 trannies. The list of cars with the problem are :

1998-2002 Honda Accord V6

1999-2003 Acura TL

1999-2003 Honda Odyssey

2001 Acura MDX (Honda for some reason won't cover this one eventhough it's the same tranny)

1999-2003 Acura CL

My understanding is that not all years of those transmissions are bad. In certain cars, like the Honda Preludes and pre-1999 Odysseys, transmissions aren't a problem. Civics are suppose to have quite a few issues with their trannies to as of 2001 -2003 model years but I don't know anyone who have had or have actually heard of anyone have problems with them.

Honda had a design problem with the automatic transmissions used with the V6 engines in model years 1998-2002. There was an unrelated problem with the same transmission in 2002, when thread lock was left out of a crucial area. Other than that, Honda automatic transmissions have been good. The 4 speed auto in my daughter's 1993 Accord (4 cylinder) is going fine after almost 150K miles.

I had a 1993 Civic for 16 years, and well over 350,000 miles, and no transmission problems until the last year before it finally died.

I have a 1999 Accord with 120,000 miles and zero transmission problems.

My sister has a 2008 Accord with no transmission problems.

My other sister has a 2007 Odyssey and no problesms.

My parents have a 2004 Odyssesy and no problems either.

I have an 08 Accord V-6. 59k and when it's cold it hard shifts into first, and pauses, sometimes significantly, as it shifts to second. Dealer claims there is no issue. Taking it in for the 2nd time. I'm very concerned because i have heard stories from two Honda owner friends about major tranny problems they've encounter over the last few model years.
