Default Should I get a Honda S2000 and start racing it or should i choose another car?

I am looking for a car that i can work on or mechanics if needed and start racing it. I love the way the Honda S2000 looks but I was wondering what are some opinions on this car. Should i stick with the Honda S2000 or choose another car?

My Dad is am instructor at some Race track schools and once had a student in a S200O. He thought the car was great, fast, good brakes and had good turn in the the tight corners.

Those are very expensive cars to repair and upgrade. Take a trip to your local drag strip and see how many S-2000s you see...you would be surprised to find even 1. There is a reason why.

They are however okay road racing cars, but again...they take a lot of money. Just a light bulb for the headlamp of that car is about $300

They are way overpriced for what you get though. For example a 2008 S2000 new was around $34,000 and goes 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds. Not bad by any means. For $26,000 you can get a 2008 Ford Mustang GT that goes 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds. The Mustang is much cheaper and easier to modify and upgrade and has more power potential than the S2000. Just my 2 cents.

If you have the money, I say you pick up a s2k.

Their fast and look hella good with the top down especially with your girlfriend shotguning.

But the thing is that the s2k, is very compact and small. You can only fit 2 people in it.

Versus a coupe model which holds 4-5 people.

It just depends on you, but I say you pick one up. You can make it look very nice and the tuning is amazing for the s2k.

you people are funny, start with a car you can afford, like a honda civic or something and start racing in amateur class. Then after you wreck your first time you will learn how to repair the car and how much it actually costs.

You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carquotes.sinfree.net

kenny is obviously a body shop manager and not a racer

the s2000 was designed to be a track car from the beginning

horsepower numbers aren't everything

the s2000 is very light

the s2000 chassis is amazingly responsive though stiff for the street

The S is very expensive to mod for sure. I have well over $30k in mods on top of the $28k I paid for it new back in 03 but you dont have to spend that much to have fun in this car. Straight out of the box this car is a blast.

There are many of us turbo S guys out there running the 1/4 mile with this car in full interior street legal mode and doing very well. Inline Pro is putting down 933 whp with this car and a built engine and on the stock suspension they are running in the mid 8's at 15* mph. A guy I know is running high 9's with his S and is putting down 700 whp on a built engine. RedStar motoring is running low 8's with their S that is putting down around 950 whp on a built engine. All this is posted on Youtube. My S is now putting down over 700 whp on the BONE STOCK bottom end and built head but no 1/4 miles times yet. The F20c engine is one strong engine in stock mode and a whole lot of us have pushed it hard and its still living. The S has a lot of potential at whatever you want to throw at it. If you dont believe me, check out the forced induction forum on S2ki.com and get ready to learn a lot about this cars potential. Boosted or lightly modded.

BTW....A bone stock S will do 0-60 in around 5.3-5.5 seconds, not 6.5 seconds like previously stated and run the 1/4 in 14.0 at 98 mph.
