Default 98 honda civic dx troubleshooting p0420 catalyst threshold.?

i changed the plugs distributor etc. to find out that i might need a new cat. my uncle had his cat removed same car but his is a 4door and there is no cel in his plus it passes inspections. can i do the same or is there another problem in my honda ? ASAP side notes when i noticed the problem car was lagging so i reved the shit out of it, Now the car runs but the muffler shakes like hell, i also have to rev a bit hard on frist gear or it will shut off.

Sounds like a plugged Cat. Which in turn will cause power loss etc...do yourself a favor and replace it before you damage parts that will cost you a lot more. good luck
