Question Need Help with Torubleshooting a 1996 Honda Civic EX Electrical Problems

Hello,

I'm sort of new to the world of Honda Civics. I got a good deal on a 1996 Civic EX with about 185,000 miles on it. The car was sold to me working, and I drove it home from the sellers house.

My problem is now I cannot start the car.

I have tried everything I know about diagnosing the problem, starting with the battery. I cleaned the leads and what not, and took the battery out of the car to charge it with a DC charger. I got it charged up and cleaned and put it back in and all the electrical systems worked but it just wouldn't start the car.

I have charged the battery with the charge on other occasions to try to get it to work, but it just doesn't want to start.

I'm inexperienced with cars in general, but I was hoping one of you guys on here could help me out.

My plan right now is to go get the battery checked out at Advance Auto Parts tomorrow and see if its functioning correctly. If not I'm going to get a new battery for the Civic and try that.

After that, I am lost. If its not the battery, I guess it could be the ignition, since I've read that Civic's ignitions **** up sometimes.

So what I'm asking is basically: Am I doing the right thing by getting a new battery and if that doesn't work, what's the next thing I should do?

Thanks for the help!

Does it crank when you try to start the car? If it does, it could not be a battery problem. there must be something wrong with your starter.
