As someone mentioned, be sure the the car IS actually hot and teh gauge is not misreading, in which case the temp. sending unit is shot. I think your thermostat is stuck closed. It should open at 195 degrees. Drop it in water that has reached 195 degrees or at the brink of boiling and see if it opens, if not the spring is dead- new thermostat. Also a quick way to tell is when the car is hot, is it just the top radiator hose or the bottom as well. If both are not hot then its definitely the thermostat. The coolant sensor is fine as the fans are coming on.

ps- do u happen to see bubbles consistently from the radiator (cap off)? If the thermostat is ok I'm rather sure it's the head gasket, leaking the combustion pressure into the coolant- new head gasket or warped head. be careful. those aluminum heads are delicate. My ex has a crappy durango and it overheated. she drove it a few mts and damaged the heads.

if t is not boiling over then it is just the Temperature sending unit bad giving you a fault reading

if you've already done the above try:

0. verify that the temp sending unit is good you can use an infra-red thermometer or pull the temp sensor and use a cooking thermometer and multimeter, hook up meter to sender, place sender in water of a know temp ( a wire coat hanger can be bent to hold sender while testing) and verify the the senders impedance/ohms are correct for the given temp.

1. make sure the thermostat is not installed in reverse

2. make sure that the cooling system is COMPLETELY free of air.

3. if neither of the above help check the water pump. if there is ANY coolant seeping from the small hole on the pump, its time to replace it (and the timing belts and maybe tension as well) another check for the pump is to check for flow of coolant. open the radiator, remove the thermostat ( or wait until is opens if you've already verified its working correctly) and when the car is running increasing the motors RPM will cause a visible coolant flow (ONLY OPEN RADIATOR WHEN THE CAR IS COLD!)

4. if you've got coolant flow from the pump and through the radiator and the car overheated (redline on the gauge) in the past, a cracked head or damaged head gasket can cause exhaust to leak into the cooling system causing overheating probs.

PS make sure you understand how to change the timing belt before attempting water pump replacement as this (and all hondas to my knowledge) is an interference motor, meaning the pistons can hit the valve if the belt breaks or is installed incorrectly.

check your temperature guage, aka themperature switch. if thats not the problem then maybe its your waterpump or even head gasket. Make sure you have no leaks.

It could be a lot of things;

1. check your water pump if working properly

2. bad thermostat

3. clog radiator

4. loose belt

5. wrong mix of water and coolant

Hope this helps!
