Take out references. Say "available upon request".
Only put college degrees, HS GPA if you are under, say, 25. Certifications (don't put who from, unless it is impressive) Personal is a bad idea. I don't recommend it. The interview will cover that. The general rule is: Write down everything that is true, cross out anything that is bad. Each resume should be tailored to the job being applied for. Use pdf for electronic copies. |

The notion that the resume needs to be only one page is outdated, particularly if you have a great deal of experience. A few things to look at though if the resume is text heavy--
don't go back more than 10 years on employment history. list experience beyond that time as "additional prior experience" and list position descriptions such as "project manager" rather than details of employers. edit away if the information in each section is passive voice. focus on action words (produced, generated, implemented) rather than 'responsible for, "monitored, and other' type phrases. Use bullet points rather than paragraphs. keep in mind that the CV is only to get the attention of the person who sets the interview appointment. you need to make your CV stand out so keep the reader in mind--write to the job requirements and show why you meet those requirements. keep it succinct. You can go into all the details of your experience when you win the interview and get to talk with the hiring manager. Good luck. |
