Default Why do people look down upon hondas?

the new j-series engines are 2000+ yr Honda's and Acuras most new swaps are being taken out of the 02-04 Odyssey 240hp and i think 242ft/lbs of torque and people make these swaps sexy as hell you guys should check it out on hondatuning.com i just also i wanna ask why do people look down upon hondas when time after time we have proved our selfs to every other car company that there wrong we've had a super car since da early 90's and most people dont know what it is (NSX) and people dont even think acura and honda are connected this is for you guys who hate on great cars and are afraid to admit that honda may not be the best but we are great

Hondas are the best made cars in the world.

It's the 16 year olds with exhaust tips and neons that try and race everyone who suck. Also, the soccer moms in Odyssey's who switch lanes without looking or turning on their blinker.

ETA: Although the kid before me redid the exhaust system for that loud effect, painted it a bright ass blue and added other 'performance mods' before me, I got the car because it was free and invested $600 to fix the problem (needed a clutch and a tranny rebuild kit, no big deal). Since then, 60,000 miles ago, it's needed an alternator and a relay. No big deal.

My first Honda and I'm sold. I didn't get it to be a performance car, off the line they don't have solid performance cars, that's obvious.

But I'd rather drive an Acura NSX than a Chevy Cobalt. SS? Hardly. Not to my standards for what SS means. two words. GIRL CAR. No offense to me. If you're a guy, trade it in. Especially if it's yellow. God.

It's because a lot of the younger guys think that a Civic is a performance car when it is not. Like any other car if you want to spend the money to make a car fast you can, but a civic off the factory line is not a performance car.

A lot of people who like Honda like to think the NSX is a super car, but it is not. It is a mediocre performance car with a super car price tag.

A 2005 Acura NSX retailed for $89000

It's 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engine makes 290 horsepower and 224 ft/lbs of torque

It weighs 3153lbs

It gets 17mpg city and 24mpg highway

Front brake rotors are 11.7 inches and the rears are 11.9 inches

It goes 0-60 in 6.5 seconds

A 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 retailed for $65,000

It's 7.0 liter 8 cylinder engine makes 505 horsepower and 470 ft/lbs of torque

It weighs 3130lbs

it gets 16 mpg city and 26 mpg highway

Front brake rotors are 14 inches and the rears are 13.4

It goes 0-60 in 3.8 seconds

So for $30,000 less the Corvette is lighter, faster, handles better and gets better overall fuel economy.

Let's compare another set of car's

2009 Honda S-2000

Retailed for about $35000

It's 2.2 liter 4 cylinder makes 237 horsepower and 162 ft/lbs of torque

It weighs 2864lbs

18 mpg city and 25mpg highway

5 year 60,000 mile warranty

It goes 0-60 in 6.5 seconds

2009 Saturn Sky Redline

Retailed for about $32,000

It's turbocharged 2.0 liter makes 260 horsepower and 260 ftllbs of torwue

It weighs 3036lbs

19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway

5 year 100,000 mile warranty

It goes 0-60 in 6.1 seconds

For $3000 less the Saturn Sky redline has more horsepower, more torque, better fuel economy, a better warranty and is much faster. It even has a better 0-60 time than Honda's supercar the NSX.

I could keep going with examples, but it would take all night and it would be a long list of cars. I will leave on this note, a 2009 Turbocharged Chevy Cobalt SS goes 0-60 in 6 seconds flat. It costs about $24,000 new. GM's weakest performance car is even faster than Honda's "supercar" the Acura NSX.

That is why people put down Honda's. Because most people who own them have a warped view of where there car ranks among other cars.

****EDIT****

ATTN: CARLOS

You are the exact type of person as to why people look down on Honda's

You say that the power to weight ratio of the NSX is like nothing I have ever seen. Let's do some math

The NSX makes 290 horsepower and weighs 3153 lbs. For every horsepower the NSX makes, it must support 10.87 lbs. That means it has a power to weight ratio of 10.87 to 1

The Corvette Z06 Makes 505 horsepower and weighe 3130 lbs. For every horsepower it makes, it must only support 6.19 lbs. That means it has a power to weight ratio of 6.19 to 1.

So could you please explain how the power to weight ratio of the NSX is so awesome?

I don't know why, Ive owned 4 hondas and have never had any problems with them. Currently i have a 2002 Civic with 230,000 miles and the only maintenance I've done is change the timing belt and one set of brakes(I run a driving school). My 98 had 250,000 when I sold it in 2004, and it is still being driven today. I also have an Accord and it is hands down the best car I've bought.

As far as the number, like speed or horsepower they are lower than most, but with a lot less of an engine. The Chevrolet Cobalt uses a 2.2L engine to power its car while the honda civic only sports a 1.7 and is still achieves a modest horsepower, and a fare 0-60 time. The pluses are higher resale and the cost of ownership is great.

According to the consumer reports, you'll pay about 20K for a civic, and it will run about 10k to operate. While the cobalt costs about 15K it in turn costs about 15 to operate so it isn't as reliable. Hondas are by far the best car for the money. I've owned all types and sware by them. The only knock I have is the Acura. It is just a supped up Honda why pay the extra 30%? Just like Lexus, the toyota is just fine as it is.

they were meant to be econ-o-boxes but everyone that went and saw fast and furious had this thought on the way home they were driving a race car.. so the next day they all went to *insert parts store here* and bought a wing, huge exhaust tip, and vinyl stickers.. the reason we all hate hondas.. is because 90% of you honda fan boys build an autozone honda civic when maybe 10% of you actually do your homework and make a fast car... and even then if you make it fast your still stuck with a fwd vehicle unless you have an s2k or nsx..

and don't get me started on the nsx.. it was an insanely overprices low performance car that was to resemble a sports car.. i watched a stock silverado ss spank a acura nsx 4 times in a row

unlike that guy who stated the nsx is not a super car i know what im talikng about first the nsx is a super car look it up Genius it has been made fun of as the pussy cat to super cars but still ranks up there with super cars first of all a vette may seem faster bcuz of horsepower ratings but it simply is not true and you can not trust videos about cars racing other cars cuz you will see one always beat the other and professional racing shows use hi proformance street tires giving the car more grip then it may have stock. you can trust first hand expeirence go down to florida and check the scene down there ive personally know a guy who spanks older vipers older vettes all day vettes common to be called a super car any more they only have da zr1 now but bak to the point when you see a nsx race up close it will change you prospective on hondas they may have littlr horsepower but the power-weight ratios on them is like nothing you have ever seen while your 500+ hp vehicle is spinning tire on the street the nsx is gripping and pulling off the only advantages i would say other super cars have o honda is that honda might rev high but has no top end speed so after 4-5 seconds of the nsx pulling away the vette usally catchs up doing 150+mph but that not the way they race down there if our able to pull away far enough your faster thats that

ADD

well your partially right im related to rafael im his dad but have you ever seen an nsx run it has little to no tire spin the nsx has rebuilt time and time again more aero dynamic and quicker than b4 the most recent nsx (mugen rr) has been built to go head to head with the new skyline which is a 11 second car out the factory look it up if you dont believe me and how do yo think a under power "NON" super car will be able to keep up wit that hmmm ...........as to the corvette which on the street will take of and lproduce enough smoke to kill a full grown elephant i will not lie the corvette is quick but have you ever heard the stamen " a corvette is only fast in a corvette" if you dont know what that means let me tell you hhkmm hhkmm have you ever since a corvette engine into sumthing else? yeah.

well have you notice the differnce in power?

yeah.it spins tires all day man

oh exactly thanks imaginary friend now do you see my point well most likely no well cant blame you you were raised in the wrong part of america i feel sorry for you people have different taste dosent mean they have good taste just different

Hondas are great cars. I've never owned one but I wouldn't hesitate from buying one if they weren't so overpriced.

People look down on Hondas because of the ricer mentality, all show and no go. Also the lack of proper grammar and speech amongst 'da' ricer aficionado...

If you are into tuning for power and performance, Honda econoboxes aren't the best place to start. Honda has some of the best engineers on the planet. I am sure most shake their heads when they see what people do to their cars. Like, do you realize that by putting huge rims and low profile tires on your vehicle that you actually decrease performance? First, there is the weight penalty; second, the increase in un-sprung weight; and third, the increase in body roll if you haven't set up your suspension properly.

If you want a fast car, buy a fast car. A Porsche 911. A Ford Mustang. A Chevrolet Corvette. A Dodge Viper. A BMW M3. But don't pretend that your little Civic is a sports car because you have a bunch of poorly installed aftermarket parts. Also don't pretend that it still gets great fuel economy and reliability after you've done so...

Wow. More penis-envy retards comparing cars by the numbers...

No, the NSX is not quicker than a Vette. No, the numbers are not better than the Vette. But guess what, if the NSX wasn't around in 91, your Vette would still exhibit shitty build interior quality, breakdown every 5k miles and require maitnenance every 3000 miles.

In fact, the NSX is greater than the car the numbers say it to be. The NSX revolutionzed the supercar industry. In fact, Gordan Murray, the famed designer of the McLaren F1 super car used an NSX as the benchmark car for his F1. Not a Ferrari, not a Porsche, not a Lambo, and surely not a Vette.

I find that most people in these types of argument only talk about the numbers and probably don't even know how to drive a car. See you at the race track...if you even know how to drive...
