Ok so I found a 09 Honda Civic Lx. Its preowned and has 2300 miles on it. They are asking $16995. Another dealer priced the same car but a 2010 model brand new for $18395. Its ridiculous to me to pay that much for a preowned year older vehicle. Please. If I'm gonna pay that much I'm getting the brand new one. Anyways my question is how much do you think I can talk him down? At a OTD price? And how should I do? Right now we're negotiating through the internet. I'm not even going up there until he comes down on it. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help. This is my first new car purchase. Or new to me. lol

Well first things first are you paying the car off in payments or full price cash? Reason i asked because professional sales men are trained to lower prices but jack up intrest rates. If your paying it off in cash talk with him over the internet and negociate a price and debate with him, and then in person bring the cash, start counting it out in his face, and say look i got 16k on me take it or leave it, i seen a nice toyota down the street i might just go buy. Its all about mind power, controlling and persuasding the oppenent. Now he may say o0o i cant, but most work on commission, so make him go get answers and not just give you off the top of his head. Ask to speak to the sales manager or franchise owner and if they inseed higher prices stil then talk about other brands you saw. Hope it helps

A brand new car is instantly valued 15 to 20% less as soon as you drive it off the lot. In it's first year it will lose 30% of it's original value.
Twenty percent off of $18,395 leaves a vehicle worth about $14,700. Don't forget also that the $18,395 is the price quoted by another dealer, BEFORE you tried to whittle him down from that. No new car should be bought at the price the dealer first asks for. I'd offer $15,000 flat and if he refuses - walk. |
