***Hey, I asked this question in maintenance and repairs but I figured I'd ask here also since this is for Honda. Figured I'd get more answers and the more help I get, the better. So here it is copied and pasted.***
1990 Honda Civic. Long story short, mine developed a leak over the past few weeks and it now goes through a whole bottle of power steering every week. I know the harms so I don't drive the car anymore... atleast until I can get it fixed. So I was looking online at my local parts store and I found one for $180 plus core. Here it is... they said it is the complete unit. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...PartType=C0031 Since it says it's complete, is that all I need to buy to just get it installed? I know it's a lot of work and I have about 3 full days to do this so I am in no hurry. I also know that once I get this installed, then I have to take the car over and get the wheel alignment done. I will have a shop do that (got a good price) but I wanna take the old rack and pinion out and install the new one to save me money. I have a manual and am pretty confident I can do this by myself. I am an auto student so I also have the luxury of asking my teachers if I get stuck or whatnot. So my question is... if I buy that part I listed, is that all I need? Just get the old one out, replace it with this, get everything connected and together and then go get the wheel alignment done? Or if there is any other info you can provide, please let me know. Thanks for the help. |

watch out for the "thread count" when you take off the tie rods.
Best way is to put a piece of tape around the tie rod ( in a circle) to keep a rough alignment. Don't move the steering wheel at all after you disconnect it from the steering box Use "sturdy" jackstands. |
