Default What are these things called?

Okay this might be embarrassing but I'm not the most car knowledgeable guy. I was just wondering what/how this car can make his car sound like this.

Well thats not the exact sound I'm looking for but I hope you get what I mean. Also how much would it cost?

Maybe you'd want to skip to like 20seconds into the video if you are not interested in the video

New exhaust system, new muffler. Cost is tough to determine, best bet would be to find a forum for you car and ask what others have.

It's called Exhaust.

Well, depends. Do you want something real that will actually give you power like a whole system or do you want something you can just throw on so it gives you some kind of sound?

A full exhaust system will run anywhere from $400-$800 possibly more.

Or you can go the "Ricer" way and just buy a $60-$80 muffler at Pepboys or Autozone and just bolt/weld it up to your stock pipes.

it's pretty much his exhaust system. the intake will add a distinguishable tone to the car, but it's mostly the exhaust you're hearing. depending on the make of exhaust, you can get the high pitch 'ricey' tone, or a more deeper tone. a quality exhaust system will run you approx $400-500 [depending on your car]. or you can get an ebay knock off for super cheap.

thats the sound a highly tuned B16A honda engine makes. the ''sporty sound'' made by modified cars is usually made by the exhaust system, but upgraded engine parts also can make audiable differences, example induction system, or turbo/supercharger. each different engine has its own sound and tone, that CRX probably has a HKS or Mugen full exhaust system, which would cost around £300-700 or more, but you can go for a backbox or muffler if you just want sound, around £50-70 but it wont add performance or BHP. the CRX also has VTEC, so that is the louder growl at higher rpm.

if you have seen the fast and the furious, the civic's at the start make the a very similar noise, as does this one, note VTEC at 5,500rpm.

. so thats the strait forward answer, but a backbox will give you more of a bellowing sound, whereas a full system will give you the more powerful, tuned sound.
