Sometimes I also feel that, when I?m driving it, it also makes a not-too-loud ?whistling? sound (when I open the window)















I?m afraid that this might not be normal. My Honda civic is a new sedan (2010) LX. When I start the engine sometimes it sounds a little weird. And when I release the break it also makes a weird sound (and sometimes when I switch gears ? d/r). But when I drive it sounds smooth. I don?t know much (anything) about cars and I was wondering if this is normal. I was thinking maybe it?s been making those sounds because the car is new (3 weeks), it?s been raining a lot lately, and it?s been cold too. Like today, when I started the engine, I felt like the car shacked more than normal. I don?t know if it?s my imagination or not but I?d like to get that clarified and see if I can get a 101 lesson on civics. Thanks so much.

That 2010 Civic has brand new virgin parts that just need to be driven and broken in.

civic engines just sound weird. it's their nature. don't worry about it. if it just runs, consider yourself lucky.

OK so basically the Civic is a lot different. The whistling sound you hear is caused by the engine valves. This is completely normal. I personally love the whistling sound and it's made that sound since day one. When changing gears, be sure to wait until the gear fully engages into the new gear whether it be Drive, Park, Reverse, ext. About you starting it in the cold. You have to remember that the engine is quite small. It will shudder when it gets cold outside. Do not be discouraged by this, I've talked to Honda technicians about a problem that is similar and it's completely normal. I drive my civic pretty hard and I honestly have never run into any problems with it. Everything you are experiencing, I have too. Treasure this car and don't be afraid to red-line it every once in a while. It's quite fun once you get that engine spinning.
