Default Cold Air Intake Help?

I have a 1996 Honda Accord Lx 4door and I am thinking about installing a cold air intake but have a few questions...

what would be a good one for my model?

what should i buy with it? as in a high flow cat and flowmaster?

how much would a good one cost?

and where/how much would it be to install?

thanks

This is an absolute waste of money. You will spend about 200 dollars on a cold air intake and it might...MIGHT give you an extra 5 horsepower. Nothing you would notice or feel. A full exhaust sytem from the header back would run you about $800 and might...MIGHT give you a extra 10 horsepower (again nothing noticeable) while severely reducing torque.

Total waste of money.

A 96 Honda Accord was not built with performance in mind. It was designed as a plain fuel efficient passenger car.

it's a honda accord, so these things are cheap. for the intake, go on EBAY and just order the cheapest one. as for an exhaust, get a catback at lordco, autozone, etc. they're not too much money and are easy to install. car will sound better and be a tiny bit more exciting to drive.

K&N is the best sytem out there. I seen it on Power Block T.V. where they put a K&N kit on a 1995 Civic. You can go to power power block t.v. on your web search. There you can buy a dvd of them installing it, how to, tools necessary, cost, and horsepower/torque gains. TRUCKS! recentley put a K&N cold air kit a 2008 Toyota Tundra 8 cylinder and got a net 14 horsepower gain.

Any performance air filter kit will have big gains over the stock system. mine had alot of bends and restrictions that came from Honda. A cat back exhaust will help reduce back pressure and increase exhaust flow.

Honestly, it's a waste of money. You should invest in something else like paint, tint, audio system, rims, etc...

It's not worth doing that kind of stuff on a serious daily car like an Accord LX.

If you really must do that, DON'T try to cut it cheap. When it comes to after market parts you really do get what you pay for. Try to cut it cheap and I can guarantee you'll see a loss of power instead of any gain at all. Plus parts that may fail prematurely.

Don't get a Cold Air Intake, this is your daily not a race car, go for the Short-Ram Intake. It may not allow as much cooler air in as the CAI but it greatly lowers the risk of Hydrolock.

As for installation, we're talking about the 3 basic bolt-ons here (Headers, Exhaust, Intake), they shouldn't be hard at all. IMO: DIY.

Some brands to look at: Injen, AEM, K&N, A'Pexi, GReddy, DC, Skunk2, Magnaflow.

1: theyre all about the same really however you should try and get one with a secondary filter to help prevent hydro-lock.

2: head-work may be a better investment

3: the cia will probably be about $60 the cat-back will be a couple hundred, and the same for the cat.

but now here are a few questions for you why do you want a cia and exhaust? are you trying to make a race car, a peppy street car, or is it just because? the point is just throwing bolt on parts at your car will usually lead to disappointment. before you start messing with a perfectly fine car and blowing hard earned money you should sit down and think about what you really want to do. then make a plan for how to do it.
