Default What gear should I downshift from 6?

Racing a little? Maybe.. I just purchased a s2k and LOVE it! The only problem is.. my bf calls me a slow driver (cuz I am when Im not trying to show off my car to save gas) lol. I wanna prove to him and race his car and beat him. I'm not a newbie driving a manual transmission, just new at 6 speed; Not much of a difference, but my question is.. when I'm driving in 6th gear, what gear should or can I downshift to drastically drive faster w/o messing up my transmission? FOr example, On a 5-speed, i would downshift to 3rd gear when im racing.

you could skip one gear and be safe. for a 6 speed you could drop down to 4..or maybe three. just check your tachometer and make sure you don't red line it...that's the key..

It's not that simple; you downshift to whatever gear is appropriate for your current speed.

Each gear is appropriate for a certain range of loads on the engine - which is determined by your speed, plus other considerations like extra weight in the car or if you're going up a hill.

The only danger concerning 'messing up' your transmission would be downshifting to a gear that's too low for your current speed, and stressing the syncho mesh as it compensates by increasing revs: something you should have done with the throttle.

You just need to spend more time with the car, getting a feel for what gear and revs is appropriate given your speed.

if crusin in 6th at low RPM's you should be able to drop 2-3 gears (watch your RPM if you drop 3 gears though...going from 6th to 4th you should have no problem at all... but rember when racing, shifting hard and fast, or down shifting lotsa gears be shoure to double clutch that tranny especially if your able to drop all the way down to third!!!

racing a little huh??? you wouldent be located near casper of wyoming would you???

2nd gear would be the lowest you can downshift to but that's if you not higher than 60 mph. if between 50 to 60 mph downshift into 3rd gear instead. just remember to try and rev match(takes practice to get it right) so you wouldn't put to much stress on the tranny.

never driven a s2k before but i think their gear ratio might be somewhere like my car.
