Last my distributor on my 91 Honda Civic DX went out on me. I finally replaced it with a new one yesterday but the car still won't start! It's cranking, it sounds like it wants to start, but nothing. Could there be another problem on top of the distributor?

Cranking but not starting is only caused by the lack of fuel delivery to your engine for combustion, electrical faults or mistimingg.
The engine cranks but the spark plugs do not deliver the necessary spark required to ignite the fuel. Inspect the spark producing mechanisms.. this includes, spark plugs, spark plug cables, ignition coil, fuses and etc. Fuel however may also be the reason to why your engine does not run. There is nothing to ignite in the combustion chambers. Check for petrol leaks or a clogged fuel filter. However, if a carburettor is being used on your vehicle.. It might require a clean up or perhaps your carburettor is also faulty. The over supply of fuel will also NOT ignite! Air-fuel ratio needs to be in the range of approx. 14.7:1. Timing is also very important... but if u're able to crank it and do not heard weird noises.. then u're still safe... By this, I mean the timing belt position. Timing that has gone horribly out of sync will cause valves to be damaged. Which = "ka-ching" $$ Installation of a new distributor will not function properly if it is not timed or set right as well. I am sorry but it is rather difficult to diagnose an automobile without being there in actual. However, cranking but not being able to start usually affiliates with the following. Related source of the problem; Electrical system ;- i ) faulty ignition system - worn out spark plugs - worn out ignition coil cables - worn out ignition coil ii) faulty starter motor Fuel Delivery system ;- - clog in fuel line/ replace fuel filter - fuel leaks? |
