My husband has this little annoying car and has alway's insisted I can't drive it because the clutch is bad and you have to know just the right way to shift it or it will break..I ride in it with him and it's such a horrible jerky ride I get car sick for the first time in my life so now I ride looking out the open window and not paying much attention to his driving technique .
Today he told me to drive and he will teach me how to operate this little monster so I got in..drove and shifted smoothly several times..smooth ride..smooth shift..then he started shouting at me that this is not going to work.that I am shifting wrong ,that I shouldn't press the clutch all the way in cause it's almost gone..I should only press to the point it catches and I should rev the motor pretty high in first before going to second cause I am letting it spin ??? My driving sounds and feels like a more pleasant experience for the car then his..anyway..my question is have you ever heard of driving like he say's to ? I drive 18 wheelers, school buses..box trucks and whatever and I have never heard of that..actually it seems like his way of driving would destroy the clutch by not pressing it fully and also kill the motor revving it so high ? is he a total idiot or is there something I don't know? |

My wife rarely drove my 1993 Civic DX 5-speed, but it was her choice. It sounds like you are driving the car properly. Perhaps your husband is jealous because it sounds like you are doing a much better job. Not depressing the clutch fully and high revving the engine sounds like a beginner trying to operate a manual clutch, or a teenager trying to hot-rod an economy car.

you should tell him driving a 18 wheeler and box truck and school buses there transmissions are way different then a honda. He will destroy every gear if doesn't press the clutch all the way. you are driving correctly smooth clutch release and smooth shifting. revving the engine wont kill the motor, but you should feel when the car need to be shifted at which points. and yes he is a total idiot if he doesn't press the clutch fully. on a 18 wheeler all you need the clutch for is for the start but you shift with out the clutch because it a double clutch not like a civic a single clutch.
