I was putting the car through its paces the other day when a little red light with an oil symbol on it next to the tachometer began flashing. It stopped flashing after I turned off the engine and resumed normal driving. What does the flashing light indicate?

It could possibly mean that your oil needs changed or that it is low. When was the last time you checked/changed your oil?















I'm not a mechanic, just know this from it happenin to me. Oil needed changed when it came on for me. but my car isn't the same as yours.

The Oil light comes on when the oil pressure drops below a preset limit. this can occur if your oil pump is failing, you have low oil in the engine, you are using too thin of an oil or you oil viscosity is gone (Need an oil change) under extreme cases and depending on how you where driving the car, you created what is called dry sumpping, this occurs when the oil pump is pumping oil faster then the oil is returning to the pan. This causes the oil pressure to appear low and cause the light to come on. One last thought I have, depending on how many miles are on the engine, you may have worn out rings and bearings in the engine and it is time for a rebuild.

You most likely need to drain your oil meaning an oil changed =)

Low oil pressure,check oil level first.Replace oil pressure switch if everything seems normal.

That you have a low oil level. Many racing engines have oil baffles, or lid over the oil in the pan to stop oil from sloshing badly and starving the oil pump. When you stopped your "putting it through the paces" the car's oil level went back to normal.
