Yes, the ATF filter is inside the tranny. Are you having problems with your transmission?

It is a more advance maintenance job, than your regular oil filter change. You will have to open it from the bottom pan.

The manual does not even have it scheduled on the book that it needs replacement.

See link at the bottom to get more ideas.

Drop the transmission and pop it open. The Automatic transmissions if equipped with a filter it will be an internal filter unlike manual transmissions like mine that don't even have one. You shouldn't worry about the filter unless you have problems, Auto tranny's are pretty complicated and any transmission you pull apart can be difficult to fix if you don't know what you're doing. Try doing some other maintenance like replacing the fuel filter, replacing/gapping new spark plugs, install some new plug wires, whatever routine maintenance you can think of.

I know what you mean though lol, sometimes I just wanna work on my car so I'll go and inspect and if I see even the slightest issue I'll replace the part or do whatever's needed. But a good thing to do whether or not you access the filter is to change the transmission fluid, a lot of people only change the oil so tranny fluid gets neglected.
