Depends on what you mean by racing and on what level. If we're talking about a track car then the best Civic would be the 8th generation coupe. The only sedan worth racing either track or drag is the 1992-1995 5th generation sedan, preferably the EX because it came stock with 4 wheel disc brakes instead of rear drums. The 5 generation overall is known for being the lighter, faster, and more nimble out of all the generations. The quickest way to getting to the tracks is to buy an Civic Si or a Del Sol that had the factory B16 engine in it.
Overall though whichever you choose just like the majority of track/drag will need some extensive modifications and a better engine is one of them. Ignore people who tell you they are strictly economy cars, they're usually ignorant or clueless when it comes to drag/track. ANY car has the potential to race it just all depends on the driver and how they go about doing it. A Civic shouldn't be over looked simply because it comes from the factory appealing to the average driver like most other cars. Civic's are light weight cars and VERY easy to tune for a knowledgeable owner. A lot of people don't like the Civic because it must be a built car and not a bought car, but building it up is where the fun is. I've seen Civics put out over 600whp and some of them running faster than 8 second drag times. Like I said, it's all about the owner and how they use the car.
To be honest though, I can't see you having a Civic with over 200whp if you have to ask this on Yahoo.
