My 2004 Honda Accord LX is making a humming noise on the passenger side under the hood, the service light has just come on as well. It sounds like it gets a little louder when you accelerate. What could it be?

It could be a bad wheel bearing or axle and the check engine light may be something else not related. Check your tire pressure and look for any uneven tread wear. Also look for any noise coming from the transmission, engine or exhaust. The key here is to pay attention to when the noise is audible. Especially if it can be heard when not moving vs heard when moving or can be heard during both movement and non.































Without more details or being there, if you only hear it while the car is moving I'd say it's a bad wheel bearing and your CEL came on for another reason.

My '05 TL Tranny is being replaced.

One week ago I sent my 3 week old '05 AT TL w/Navi in to the dealer to have a drone sound (between 30-35 mph) checked out.

After replacing the heat shields, the mechanic called American Honda's Tech Gurus and they told him that the drone is from the transmission and that it needs to be replaced. It seems that there is an issue with the bearings in the transmission.
