Stock they either come with a SOHC 1.5L or a SOHC 1.6L as far as engine swaps the sky is the limit as long as you have the green$$

but for the cheapest you can get a H22A and add some kind of forced iduction 4 bangers really cant be fast without turbos, super chargers and NOZZZZZ (N0S) JDM stickers on every inch of the car and a large 10 inch chrome muffler tip oh and also a 7 foot high carbon fiber spoiler, clear taillights, body kit that makes the car appear 4 centimers from the gorund. 17 or 18 inch rims (usually powdercoated black or spray painted black) Also the one biggest thing you must have is a VTAK (Vtec) every serious street warrior must have a Vtak without it you just cant smoke the big block v8 muscle cars on the steet and strip

the LX's have a D15 i believe. and if you want to do a motor swap...try either a B18C (from an Integra type-R) or a K20 if you have the money. if you want just a cheap engine, a B16 from DC2's will do also

dude i've got one...it has the D15A most likely...that's what mine has...if i were you..i'd either fix up the old engine with brand new parts...or to swap it could go with anything in the D,B,H, or the GODLY K

for me...the only swap route is the K20Z3 from a 2006 or higher Civic Si

You have a 4 generation 1988-1991 Honda Civic LX. The motor that came in these models was the D15B2 SOHC Non-VTEC. Has 92hp and 88trq.

Here's most of the motor swaps seen/have been done:

D16Z6 EG Civic EX Motor (125hp w/ 106trq) SOHC VTEC

D16Y8 EK Civic EX Motor (127hp w/111trq) SOHC VTEC

B16A SiR-I or SiR-II Motors (160-170hp w/ 111-113trq) DOHC VTEC

B16B Type R Motor (185hp w/ 117trq) DOHC VTEC

B18B Integra LS Motor (145Hp w/ 127trq) DOHC

B18C GSR Motor (180hp w/ 126trq) DOHC VTEC

B18C Type R Motor (200hp w/ 134trq) DOHC VTEC

And the famous K20A Type R Motor (220hp w/ 158trq) i-VTEC DOHC

There's also a possibilty of the H and F series motors.

Each motor may or may not need some modifications to the engine bay to fit in the vehicle.

the lx is the 4th generation civic, (EF) and ignore matt, don't know why these people bother answering, nothing better to do....

the engine depends on spec and region, by lx i'll assume you live in america, where the 4th gen was quite limited, japan and europe had a wider range of performance levels. the base model has a 1.2 SOHC carburetor engine, (JDM only). they came with a 1.3 (d13b), a 1.4 (d14a), 1.5 (d15b) and the top US model, the Si came with the d16a6, a 1.6 SOHC. (106bhp). it had the d16z5 (130bhp) for the european market. the top model SiR in japan came with the 160bhp b16a engine, (labeled B16A2/A1 outside of japan).

so it depends on your trim, if you have the B16A already (it would have to be an import) then stick with that, if not then you can swap a B16A2 strait in, (need to change gearbox, ECU, wiring loom aswell)but will be a fairly srait swap as they come standard with the car in JDM.

for mental performance you could go for a B18C from a integra type-r, or the B18C1 (slightly less performance, USDM version) but will cost alot more and will be more work. with either of those power-weight means a fast car! not to mention, (Tim may want to read this) the B-series and K-series are some of the most tunable, high performing normally aspirated engines out there and can be faster than a ''big v8'' without forced induction.

PS. matt, a 850kg car with a DOHC VTEC 160bhp engine wont be a slow piece of ****.
