Default What is the cost of the 100,000 timing belt maintenance on a 95 Honda Civic and is it necessary

right away? I'm thinking about buying a 95 Honda Civic with 110,000 but there was no timing belt replaced yet.

I can't give you a pat answer on the dollar amount, but the Honda dealership can.

100,000 miles? My guess is ,that year, it's way past due for sure and yes, that would be necessary right away.

They'll want to do the water pump too. $1,000.00 total bill maybe.

My guess is that is an 'interference' engine. Meaning when the belt breaks there's interference between the valves and pistons and that will be COSTLY to say the least!

If that happens, consider it totaled for all intense and purposes.

It'll cost about $700 if you do the water pump at the same time which most dealers will recommend.

I wouldn't put it off because a broken or slipped timing belt means a minimum $2000 repair.

Some crappy cars like a Chevy Aveo will break theirs at 50k - 60k, but a Honda will go about 100k.

the timing belt on that car is usually replaced at 90,000 or 7 years. if you are sure its never been replaced then you are overdue.

the other quotes are extremely high. my honda dealer has a 'package' deal for the timing belt, water pump, new coolant and new drive belts for $379. And that's in California. You can get it done for less if you go to a local mechanic who is looking for work. However,t you really should replace the other 'package' items at the same time--the water pump, coolant and the other drive belts.

Also, at 90k the car was due for a major service that includes the valve adjustment and spark plug replacements. along with that, all the filters should be replaced as well as the normal oil and filter change. the valve adjustment is the most critical maintenance service on that car and no one other thing has more of an affect on the engine power and fuel economy as the valve adjustment.

you can defer that maintenance if it hasn't been done, but .keep in mind that if you maintain the car it will go for 400,000 miles; so protect your investment and do the maintenance as soon as its affordable.

best advice--shop around. call first and ask for a specific quote on the timing belt, drive belts, coolant and water pump including parts, labor and tax. as a consumer, you have the right to say "no". be sure that you are comfortable with the company you chose to do business with.

hope that helps

For all the parts needed is $61.79.Belt,tensioner and water pump.Trick is to find shop who will use your parts.Labor is usually the killer on a Honda belt replacement, and worth it.110K isn't too bad for a Honda if it's had good service. You should be able to put 500K on a Honda before it starts getting tired and dated.Belt replacement is good insurance for peace of mind. You wouldn't want to lose belt in stop and go traffic! I got my kit at same site, delivered in two days as advertised.Quality parts. No,it is not necessary right away to replace belt, but put it on the top of your "Do" list.My original lasted for 272K!

wow where are you guys coming from with your prices? In sacramento, cheapest honda dealer charges about $100 an hr. 3.5hrs for the timing belt/waterpump and the 3 drive belts w/ coolant of course. oem parts alone is closer to $150 and above. I know for a fact every dealership charges at least 3.5 hrs to do the job, i don't know how they can do the whole package for $379, even in hard times.
