Default Life left in my Honda Civic?

I bought a 1998 Honda Civic a few months ago, with 180k miles on it. I am in college, and deliver pizzas full-time.

I have put about 10k miles on it since I got it, it's now at 190k, and it's still running perfect. I can tell that it was very well taken care of by the previous owners, and I also don't drive it very hard, and change the oil every 3-5k miles.

How much life do you think this car still has in it? I'd like to not get another car for a very long time, so I'm wondering how much longer I might be able to expect my Civic to live.

It is not uncommon for civics to reach 300k and even past that.

Considering the miles you are putting on it don't be surprised if you need a new car in a year or 2. Its already high mileage and its going to need some work to keep it running right.

With any luck you'll pass 300K, with bad luck you might have a head gasket failure tomorrow. Either way you can get as much life out of them as you want if you keep in mind how easy it is to find a cheap used engine on ebay.

When you got the car were there any maintenance records that came with it? What you are looking for is when was the timing belt and water pump changed. These two items are due to be replaced about every 100,000 miles. This car with proper care will go to 4 or 500,000 miles. The key is proper maintenance,do not use mechanics that you do not know,no short cuts if your car needs brakes make sure it is done right. Here is a wen site that will give you the approx price for auto repairs and will also give you a list of mechanics in your area.It is better to spend a few hundrend dollars in maintenance then it is to pay a few hundrend a month for another car. Here is that web site and I have nothing to do with it.www.repairpal.com Believe it I got this site from one of our local TV stations and it is really a good one.

I agree with Tony. My cousin has a civic with of 450K..

If you want similar results, Preventative maintenance needs to be done.

If the timing belt breaks, the car will not be worth repairing, All though it is not cheap, and they may last longer, most people recommend that is done every 100K... don't take the risk.

do your maintenance. Some of these people dont know what they are talking about. Search yahoo for honda mile makers. This is a web site that has honda cars with lots of mileage on them. I think there is a guy with a civic that has over 700,000 miles on it. But ya do all your maintenance especially timing belt and water pump every 100k.
