Cheap, Yes,
Racing, Not really, Probably ok if racing against another civic or compacts. Civics were designed to be practical and economical cars. Even with engine swaps, mods, and upgrades, yes it does improve its capability, but shortens is lifespan, and is still not considered a racing car nor a sports car. |

Not cheap and not good to race. Its a serious waste of money. The price of a Honda even used is ridiculous. The engines will not make any decent power without putting in enough money to go out and buy a whole new car with lots more potential. Your best bet is the drain the oil and refill the engine with sodium silicate and drive it to the nearest ford dealership and trade it off. Be sure to let them know the cars engine is seized up (it will be after the sodium silicate gets in it). Its the best thing for it.

Like I said in your other question, it's all about the driver and how they go about tuning the car and what their definition of racing is. A Civic is a car that needs to be built not bought. Any race car regardless of it's make and model is going to be need to be taken care of 24/7. The 5generation is the probably the best because of it being known as the lighter and more nimble group plus their popular and easily tunable double-wishbone suspension.
Any car has the chance of racing, but you won't be going anywhere on a stock motor. Not many have done it, but there are stock Civic motors out there that are putting out over 400whp and tearing up drag strips. These cars are mostly criticized because of the owners who buy them and don't know what they're doing so they weld mufflers on, make/find crappy "performance" then try to race a family at a stop light. So Civics carry a very bad reputation. We can thank the unrealistic Fast & The Furious movies for that. |
