SOMETIMES I PUSH THE BRAKES AND IT GOES OF. OTHER TIMES IT GOES OFF. DRIVING IN FIRST GEAR IS TIGHT.

WHAT COILD BE THE PROBLEM?

either the handbrake or its switch is sticking. OR the brake fluid reservoir under the hood is low on fluid.

Try adding brake fluid first. My Civic did the same, I added brake fluid and it went away.

Low brake fluid,or switch on parking brake is bad.

I suggest checking the switch which is supposed to be under the driver's seat foot area. My friend's own (99 Civic LXi) had the same issue a couple of days ago.

I know this is an old thread, but my daughters dash brake light on a 99 Civic, was coming on sporadically, it was indeed above the "Min" lines on the brake reservoir, so I added some Dot 3 brake fluid and topped it off bringing it up to the "Max" line and now it stays off. I don't have any loss of fluid at any of the wheels or lines, so it was just a case of low fluid. My .02!
