Default How come the 2009 Honda Civic is less fuel efficient then the 2006 version?

arent cars supposed to be more fuel efficient. i just got a new civic and according the the window sticker, it is worse on fuel consumption....its not by much but still.

Govt standards changed for all cars a couple years ago. Using that site will tell you what older cars MPG is based on the new methods used.

It weighs more probably. newer cars are a lot of heavier because of all the options they add on.

Its mostly the same car, They changed the way that fuel economy is rated, the new rating that is on the 09 will be more accurate for normal use that the old rating.

The government is adding more and more every year of what needs to be on cars, and as a result they are weighing more and more, thats most likely why it gets worse mileage...nothing mechanically has changed since 2006, so it has to be something else. weight is almost always the culprit. look at how civics used to be powered by 90 h.p. 1.4 L engines and were amazingly fast (CRX), and now they use 140h.p. (approx.) 1.8L engines and get way less mileage... the answer? the crx weighs next to nothing and goes much faster than a new civic and gets better mileage but because of safety regulations the new cars have to have more airbags, crumple zones, etc.

no its more accurate because they always add on technology and things that way down the car so its better. that kills the mpg but its still good on gas.

Engines are tuned differently from year to year. One big reason can be that emissions requirments have gone up, which surpresses the motor more. It won't be as efficient, but it will put out less harmful emissions.

The engine is a completely different engine from the 06 version and every engine works that little bit different
