Default 2008 uk civic

hi ,just bought a 2008 civic in uk when i went to get a set of floor mats the guy said that i had a fixing bracket on the drivers floor that holds the mats in place that should not be there as honda stopped using this fixing in the 2008 model any body any ideas why this bracket is in my car i bought the car from a uk honda dealer. Is there a plate on the car that tells me the year of manufacture ? where would i find the plate any help would be appreciated
