Default Honda Civic Advice Please?

Can someone please tell me if $1800 for a 1993 Honda Civic DX with 99k miles on it and no leaks or visible problems was a good deal ? It looks like KBB is for barely $2400, so I took the offer.. Should I get the timing belt changed since it's at it's 100k mark ?

Lastly, I was told this is a "plain Jane" Honda Civic DX and that's why the pickup is so slow. Is a auto trans 93 honda civic dx supposed to choke a bit at 25mph when it switches gears ? (Mild jerk) other than that, it feels great ?

What are some other basic things I should do now with my new used Honda that are fair priced ? (Like oil change)

Thank you

there really aren't any product problems with the trans on that car so it is probably that the engine is a bit out of tune or that the motor mounts are broken and that's why you have the jerk on shifts.

the timing belt should be changed if you don't know when it was last changed. Back in those days the spec was for a timing belt every 60000 miles or 7 years. so you are due if you don't know when it was last changed.

the one thing you really need to keep up on with that car is the valve adjustment. On that year, the valves are to be adjusted every 15,000 miles. There is no one adjustment that is more critical to engine performance and fuel economy than the valve adjustment.

spark plugs are cheap so you should have them changed. have them check the spark plug wires and cap and rotor when they do the valve adjustment and plugs. chances are that they could use replacement as well.

lastly, be sure the filters are changed. change the air and fuel filters as normal maintenance.

and make sure you have the brakes checked for safety. when they check the brakes, have a look at the undercarriage and check the suspension and exhaust as well as the steering.

check the quality of the coolant, oil and transmission fluid and change them if they are dirty or discolored. A low transmission oil could also cause the shift to hang on 1-2.

sounds like you got a good deal. take care of the car and it will last to 400k with no problems.

hope that helps

WELL LET ME TELL YOU THAT JUST FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT IS A HONDA YOU MADE SMART CHOICE SPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE ,,AND YEAH I WILL CHANGE THE TIMING BELT SO THAT WAY YOU KEEP TRAK WHEN YOU CHANGE IT AND WHEN YOU WILL NEED TO CHANGE IT AGAIN,SAME WITH OIL CHANGES EVERY 3K MILES OR EVERY THREE MONTHS WHAT EVER COMES FIRST...AND FOR YOUR TRANNY THEY HAVE OILS OR ADITIVES THAT HELP YOUR TRANSMISSION TO WORK AS GOOD AS NEW...OR A TUNE UP IF YOU WANT TO...
