Default 96 Accord A/T 4cyl VTEC F22b1 Fuel Filter svc HELP!!

Ok, why in the heck is it soooo friggin hard to replace the fuel filter in my 1996 Accord EX coupe?? It's been up on jacks for the past week and a half and the only progress I've made was getting the mounting bracket off!!! Is this something that can be done with good ol hand tools or should I take it to a pro? I know what the procedure involves and each step but I cannot get any f%%$ing room to turn a wrench or ratchet. Any help or advice/guidance would be very much appreciated as I'm at whit's end with this issue.
