Default 5th Generation Civic or 6th Generation Civic?

Now, I'm more a fan of the 6th generation Civics, but according to everybody, the 5th generation is the faster one. Which one do you prefer overall? And what truly makes them different (besides the way they look)? What would you recommend for a teenager?

Neither is noticeably faster then the other. The 92-95 and 96-00 weigh pretty much the same thing and the engines are very similar to each other. The main difference is the 6th Gen Civic Si same with a DOHC engine. Also the 92-95 is OBD1 while the 96-00 is OBD2

92-95 Civic DX/LX = D15B7 102 HP

92-95 Civic EX/Si = D16Z6 125 HP

96-00 Civic DX/LX = D16Y7 106 HP

96-00 Civic EX = D16Y8 127 HP

99-00 Civic Si = B16A2 160 HP (Starting to get rare to find these days)

Overall I prefer the 92-95 Civic Hatch. There small, compact, and have that nice bubble look to them.

personally i prefer the 6th gen, refered to as EK in japan, EJ in europe and DX in america. (99-00 facelift called EM). i prefer the design. the main difference is really the looks. the 6th gen is bigger, and weighs more, hence the 5th gen, (or EG or DX) being rumoured the fastest, yet keeps its low chassis. the engines are similar in both models, base models starting from the 1.3 D13B2 in the 5th gen and the 1.4 D14A2 in the 6th gen. they both used a range of D-series engines, ranging from 1.3-1.6 (the 6th gen not having the 1.3) and both had the B16A2 DOHC 160bhp engine in the Si or VTI versions. the availability of engines in civics depends on your country as the engines they came with depended on region, for example the 5th gen only came with the B16A2 in japan only (ViRS).

so even though they have the same power, the 5th gen will be quicker as its lighter and smaller. the 5th gen are great cars as well but another reason id go for the 6th is the 6th gen was the first to have the type-r treatment in the EK9 type-r which was only ever sold in japan, but have been imported outside of japan since privately. the come standard with a seam welded chassis, 5-stud wheel hubs and the 185bhp B16B engine, which holds the record for the most powerful normally aspirated production engine in the world in terms of power:capacity ratio!

the 6th gens bascically the newer version, with independant rear suspension etc and improved chassis. For a teenager the 5th gen will be the cheaper car to run, buy and insure, but the 6th gen is the more popular car in JDM culture and the 'new and improved' model

so thats some of the facts that separate them and im a fan of the 6th gen, but heres some info on both

They're both good generations but with the 6th generation I see that as being more of the family orientated generation and the 5th generation being more aimed towards the youthful teen drivers. Faster stock is the 5th generation, they were lighter than the 6th generation but not by much. But of course there's the exception of the Si which was faster than all the cars in the 5th and 6th generation and it's only challenge in a stock vs stock was with the Del Sol but the Si was still faster.

If I were you I'd pick between:

1994-1995 Civic EX

1993-1997 Del Sol

1991-1995 Civic Hatchback

or the famous 1999-2000 Civic Si

Also, if you plan on any modifications, make sure you have a good security in place before anything.
