Default are honda crx's good cars?

I'm thinking about buying a used 1990 honda crx. it's got 247,000 miles on it, needs a new muffler, and has some sort of battery short where you just disconnect the battery cable if the car is going to be sitting for a long period of time(overnight or longer). what can you tell me about these cars in general, and does anyone have an idea what could be causing a drain on the battery? thankx!!

these cars in general are excellent...you do have a lot of miles on it and there is the possibility for the smaller things to go wrong.. the engine is touted as excellent but even an excellent motor can die..

i would check your alternator for power drain on the battery...

good luck

they are popular cars in the JDM tuner culture and hold their value very well. they are capable of high milage, although 247,000 is alot for any car. as for the battery, check the cells on the battery itself, screw the lids off (little round circular caps on battery) and check to see of fluid is full up in all cells, if even one isnt it will cause it to lose charge! mine did it in my old peugeot and had to push start it all the time.

info on the car, they come with a 1.6L engine, go for the SI-R (vti) its the best model in terms of mod cons, air con etc and comes with the B16A1 DOHC VTEC engine which puts out 150bhp standard so is quite fast! they have a tendency to rust, so check for that. the B16 if looked after will practically never give up and has usuall honda reliability, but bear in mind odd things might go wrong with car, its high milage and nearly 20 years old! so yes its a good car from the tuner, japanese car enthusiasts point of view, but if your looking for luxury and/or a A to B car, then not the first choice.
